With privacy out of the way, we must start focusing [our medical billing system] on Information Security.

Of course we have been concerned with security since the early 80's, so we believed we had a good handle on information security, at least from the technical side of things.  However, after taking a close look at the voluminous regulation, I hired Infotex to conduct an assessment of our Information System. They looked at every aspect of our overall Information System, from policies and procedures to awareness to, of course, the technical aspects such as firewalls, patches, etc.  And though we were in pretty good shape, I was surprised to find that there was still some areas that we needed to address in order to comply with HIPAA.

I of course can not go into these details. I will say though that Infotex provides an excellent service, well-worth the reasonable price. They develop a simple, easy-to-understand plan to comply with HIPAA security. The report was 1000 times more thorough than other audits we had . . . but organized to be much easier to understand and implement.
